VooDoo Doughnut

Chance was watching the Food Network channel the day before we left for Portland and happened to catch an episode on the VooDoo Doughnut shop located in Portland, Oregon. They had a doughnut that was enormous called the Tex-Ass and they even had a challenge...

THE TEX-ASS CHALLENGE

Think you can eat our Tex-ASS doughnut in under a minute and a half? (or whatever the current record is.) Many have tried and most have failed. If you can do it, the doughnut is FREE! (You must purchase it in advance.)

Chance was determined to find the restaurant and purchase the doughnut he had seen on t.v. From the moment we arrived in Portland both Chance and Coby were begging to find the place. Finally, the second day, after Coby's game, we set out to find VooDoo Doughnuts. Actually we just put it into our GPS and drove right to it. I was not expecting the huge, long, ginormous line of people waiting outside just to get into the building. Everyone around us were taking pictures and had come from far away just to get a doughnut from this place. Chance wanted the doughnut but didn't want to take the challenge.

It was finally out turn to order our doughnuts. (Come to find out, it was actually just a hole in a wall. Barely big enough to fit all four of us in the front of the shop.) There were so many choices we didn't even know what to do. Chance and Coby ordered their Tex-Ass doughnut (we had to shield their eyes from some of the other names they had for doughnuts) and John and I decided on ours. John got a doughnut that had Oreo crumbles on top drizzled with peanut butter (I won't tell you the name of it) and I had a mini M&M dipped doughnut.

Look at some of these doughnuts. They had one with Froot Loops on the top and another with Captain Crunch. It was crazy.
They also have "regular" doughnuts like maple bars and old fashioned. So, if you are scared to get something interesting you can stick with the boring. I got a maple bar and John got a jelly filled just in case our others were nasty.

All of the cake boxes were stamped with "Good Things Come In Pink Boxes".

Boy was it right.

I had never seen a doughnut this huge in my life.

Coby took his time and savored every bite while Chance ate his in about 3 or 4 minutes. I don't see how anyone could eat it in 80 seconds. They were delicious!!

So, if you are ever in Portland, Oregon look for VooDoo Doughnuts. Though you may have to wait in line for a while, it is worth it.
