I was volunteering in Gunnar's class today and a lady walked into the classroom and asked to see Gunnar in the hall. I immediately thought..."oh no, what did he do? Is he in trouble?" He was gone for quite some time and when he returned to the class he walked up to me, gave me a kiss and joined his classmates on the rug. I immediately thought, "Is he trying to kiss up to me so I'm not so mad at him when I find out what he did." After seeing Gunnar give me a kiss the woman who took him into the hall came up to me and showed me a piece of paper with hundreds of words on it. She said, "Look at all of these words Gunnar can read." She said that she just came from a second grade classroom and Gunnar can read more words than most of the kids in that class. She said at this point in kindergarten he only needs to know about 10 to 20 sight words. He knew well over 250. I am so proud of him. He is a great reader.
Thank you Miss Romi for everything you taught him and thank you John for reading to him every night of his life.
